This recipe is what started the madness, it was the first one that I ever tried and makes a pretty big mess :) So get ready to make a mess of yourself, your work space, and all those nooks and crannies! This is super easy and great for kids to make and use, I've had my 5 and 8 year old nephews make these with me on several occasions and they love it!
Basic Bath Bombs
Ingredients: *equal parts and can be adjusted depending on how many you want to make
1 cup baking soda-Costco
1 cup citric acid--can get at a homebrew store or online (Amazon Prime baby!)
1 cup corn starch-bulk at Winco
few drops of essential oils
few drops of food coloring
Mold of your choice
Spray bottle of water
*if your feeling adventurous you can use Witchazel, which is a good astringent.
What the heck is an astringent you ask? Well Wikipedia says:
"Externally applied astringents, which cause mild coagulation of skin proteins, dry, harden, and protect the skin. People with acne are often advised to use astringents if they have oily skin.Mild astringent solutions are used in the relief of such minor skin irritations as those resulting from superficial cuts, allergies, insect bites, or fungal infections such as athlete's foot"
Mix the dry ingredients so there aren't any lumps (the citric acid can get lumpy and the corn starch is super fluffy which helps add to the mess making fun).
Once all of the dry ingredients are mixed, add your essential oils and food coloring. Don't worry about getting this mixed in super well since the water will do a good job of helping.
Spray about 20 squirts to start, mixing with hands, until the mixture is fairly moist and when you make a fist of it it keeps its form. If you add too much water it will start to foam so be careful! If this happens then just add more dry ingredients, it happens sometimes :)
Stuff into a mold of your choosing, packing pretty tight. If it starts to foam out after a few minutes you need to add more dry ingredients.
After molds are packed, let dry overnight. Turn over and they are ready to go! Super Easy, right??
To use: simply drop into a tub full of water, it will bubble and dissolve.
