Let's clean some clothes shall we...

This recipe is SO EASY, the hardest part is grating the fels-naptha (which I of course bought a automatic cheese grater for, $30 target)

I stole this recipe from
One Good Thing by Jilee (I LOVE her blog!)

Her website is AMAZING, so there is just the basic recipe but go check out her site for better instructions and photos of how-to!

From her website:
3 bars Fels Naptha, grated ($1.33 x 3)
1 box Borax  ($5.85  -  76 ounces)
1 box Washing Soda ($4.07  -  55 ounces)
2 cups of baking soda ($0.53 cents)
2 containers of Dollar Tree Oxyclean (I bought mine at Family Dollar store…SUN Brand…$4.00 each)
1-2 containers of Purex fabric softener crystals ($6.97  -  28 ounces)
Use 2 tablespoons per load. Put it right in the barrel if you have an HE washer.

This recipe she says is for a full year's worth for just $30.00!
I've been using this recipe for a about a year, but I made some adjustments to it.

This is for a much smaller batch and all ingredients I found at Macey's and you can see the containers in the picture above:

1 bar Fels Naptha, grated
2 cups Borax
3 cups Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
1/2 cup Baking Soda
2 cups King Water Softner
about 1-2 cups Purex crystals (optional)

About the Purex crystals....you can omit then and be totally fine. They add a light scent to your laundry and I personally have gone back and forth about the chemicals that are contained to make them smell as strong as they do. So I've stopped using them in my own batches and have started adding in essential oils to it such as: orange, lavender, and even lavender-peppermint.

Another thing you can do for some added scent is take a 6x6ish piece of COTTON cloth and put your essential oils on there, then throw it in the dryer with your freshly washed clothes. I usually will use anywhere from 8-10 drops depeneding on how I feel.

As for  FABRIC SOFTNER, I usually will add about a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of white vinegar straight to my fabric softner section of my washer.

***These recipes ARE HE WASHER FRIENDLY! :)
