Homemade Probiotic Deodorant

OK so this will be my first blog entry and I'm new to this whole blog thing, so please bare with me. :)

So let's get started! Over the weekend I tried making some homemade deodorant following this recipe and directions:http://frugallysustainable.com/2011/11/homemade-probiotic-deodorant-that/.

Homemade Probiotic Deodorant
Ingredients
-1 tbsp. cocoa butter
-1 tbsp. coconut oil
-1 tbsp. shea butter
-1 tbsp. beeswax
-2 1/2 tbsp. arrowroot powder
-1 tbsp. baking soda
-1/4 tsp. vitamin E oil
-15 drops essential oil of your choice
-2 capsules powdered probiotics

I knew I needed to get some probiotics so I headed over to Good Earth, looked around for about 10 minutes hoping I wouldn't have to ask someone and could find it on my own....that's didn't work out. So I asked this sweet little old man if he could show me where the "shelf-stable probiotics" were, he points me to a cooler and I repeat that I need "shelf stable". He seemed annoyed that I asked again and pointed to the bottles that they all said "shelf stable" but they just put them in a cooler. So I stare at which one to choose from, some were pretty expensive and the recipe only calls for 2 pills. I ended up spending about $7.00 for a bottle which I was pleased with compared to up to $45!

So about the recipe, it's super easy to make!! Instead of using the stove top I used the microwave because I'm totally lazy like that. I had an empty deodorant container so I cleaned out the bottom remnants and reused (which I LOVE doing). Once it was done and I was gitty with joy about doing this for myself I got it out of the fridge and tested...

The conclusion on this: it's a little too soft for my liking. When I rub it on my pits it tends to smudge on instead of glide, so next time I think I will add in a little bit more beeswax to harden it up. As for the scent, I chose lavender which smells pretty good. Next time, I will try less cocoa butter since I'm not the hugest fan of the smell.
